As part of the children’s learning based on the story Oliver’s Vegetables, pupils have been exploring a variety of vegetables. During this activity, the children were introduced to rhubarb and were encouraged to recognise and name it.

They used their senses to explore the rhubarb, describing how it felt and what it smelled like. The children showed curiosity and engagement as they handled and examined the vegetable.
Following this, they took part in a simple cooking activity where they helped to prepare a crumble topping by following instructions. This supported their ability to listen, follow sequences, and develop early cooking skills.
Finally, the children had the opportunity to taste rhubarb crumble alongside fruit during snack time. Many were keen to try something new, helping to promote positive attitudes towards unfamiliar foods.
